Paper Cut & A Penny

Now that everything is in for the book dead-line (see last post),

I am back to work on my paper cut!

I thought this photo would give you a better idea of the size of the paper sculpture blossoms, when compared to a penny! : )

Reading: Paper Sculpture by George Borchard

Thoroughly illustrated in both color and black-and-white, this book shows how to learn the basic principles of working with paper and making more advanced designs which include innovative stars and angels for Christmas, St. George fearlessly confronting a paper dragon and lampshades built from paper. The author describes the progression from flat to complex, rounded shapes and explains how only simple tools are necessary to advance from the fundamentals - rolling paper into cylinders, scoring lines before bending paper, or using discs as the basis for more advanced shapes - to the intricate results that make paper sculpture an ingenious craft. Mr. Borchard gives hints for selecting paper suited to the various projects and offers helpful hints about correct surfaces to use for colored paper. Please Forgive Me....

Please forgive me. After much tossing and turning last night, I realized that my timing is a bit off. : (

What I should be doing right now, is writing up my papercutting sculpture process for Somerset Studio, which I need to get in by February 1st, 2009. In that article I will share my technique, materials, and a few tips on how I create my paper sculptures.

I'm still not sure when the article will hit the newsstands, but you will be the first to know!
